Future Minds

An event for young people to shape the next generation of mental health care

Celebrating 70 years of the NHS and 25 years of YoungMinds

As the NHS turns 70 we are witnessing an historic time for young people’s mental health.

Right now, the NHS has an ambitious programme to transform mental health services by 2020/21. One of the top goals is to give an extra 70,000 young people access to mental health services a year.

There is much to celebrate in how far we have come since the days when mental health was not considered a part of our wellbeing. Young people’s mental health has never been a higher priority.

But while it’s important to recognise where we’ve come from, we believe now is the time to look to the future.

That’s why NHS England is working with YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity fighting for young people’s mental health, as it celebrates the 70th birthday of the NHS in what is also the charity’s 25th year.

The NHS can’t achieve mental health transformation on its own – and no-one is more important in shaping the future of young people’s mental health care than the people who need it.

So, on Saturday 12 May, NHS England and YoungMinds will bring together 100 young people, aged 14-20, to get creative about the future of mental health support. Through fun, interactive activities, we will look beyond 2021 towards a new, innovative vision for young people’s mental health for the next generation.

The event will also explore how we can help young people now, empowering those attending to talk about their own mental health.

If you are a Children and Young People’s Mental Health service, a school, a charity or a youth group, and you are interested in attending with up to 10 of your young people, please register for tickets here.

Please note: Bursaries to contribute to travel costs are available to groups travelling to London.

The changes over the past 70 years are nothing compared with what we're going to see in the next 70. Be part of designing the future.
