Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Future Network is a quarterly, informal evening hosted by Metal for artists, organisations and creative businesses working in all disciplines to come together to discuss ideas, meet others and learn new skills.

The next event is on Thursday 12th January at 6pm at Chauffeurs Cottage, St Peter’s Road, Peterborough PE1 1YX.

Guest speakers include artists in residence Bettina Furnee, Lucy Sheerman and Cheryl Frances-Hoad who are work towards a new work Even Your Song. We will also be hearing from award winning performance artist and general troublemaker, Scottee.

If you would like to present one of the 3 Minute Wonder ‘open mic’ slots please email ruth@metalculture.com asap.

6pm: Invited guest speaker, Scottee will talk about his work with opportunity for Q&A.

Scottee is not easily definable; artist, troublemaker, loudmouth, showoff and attention seeker. His work is live, brash, clumsy and will often leave you covered in confetti. His work is often about outsiderness; race, sexuality, class, age and gender. He creates spaces where the perceived underdog is celebrated, at the forefront and no longer ignorable.

His work has been performed for audiences across the globe; Australia, Asia, Europe and America. In London his projects have been presented at some of the worlds leading spaces; Barbican, Royal Opera House, Tate Britain, Roundhouse, ICA and Southbank Centre but he prefers to make work in dodgy gay bars, public toilets, bedrooms, disused tanning shops and forgotten community centres.

For Januarys Future Network Scottee will talk about his practice and his experience on how to survive as a solo performer. Find out all about Scottee here www.scottee.co.uk

7pm – 7.30pm: 3 Minute Wonders - Up to 10 x 3 minute ‘open mic’ spots for artists/organisations to talk about new ideas, existing projects, opportunities coming up, or calls for support.

7.45pm – Invited Guest speaker Bettina Furnee, Lucy Sheerman and Cheryl Frances – Hoad with opportunity for Q & A

Bettina Furnee, Lucy Sheerman and Cheryl Frances-Hoad, artists in residence at Metal, Peterborough will be talking about their project Even Your Song, a new work based on Choral Evensong, the service that takes place every night at Peterborough Cathedral.

The piece asks couples to consider an extended journey into space with their partner.

Lucy and Bettina interviewed twelve Peterborough couples to find out whether they could make a one-year journey to the moon together, and used these words to create a libretto following the structure of Evensong. They then invited the award-winning young composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad to set the words to music. In making the piece they wanted to invite Peterborough residents to experience the wonderful music that is performed in the Cathedral, and to include their voices in the piece.

Bettina, Lucy and Cheryl will talk about the process of creating the project and their upcoming performance at Peterborough Cathedral, which take place on 16 February 2017.
