Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Future Network is a quarterly, informal evening hosted by Metal for artists, organisations and creative businesses working in all disciplines to come together to discuss ideas, meet others and learn new skills.

The next event is on Thursday 5th October at 6pm at Chauffeurs Cottage, St Peter’s Road, Peterborough PE1 1YX.

Guest speakers include Ipswich based theatre company Eastern Angles who will talk about their approaches to reminiscence and collecting histories and how they magically turn these into verbatim theatre and musicals. Other guest speakers include artist Emily Tracy, some of you may know her from her recent work ‘Clutter Bank’ as part of Planet B. Emily will talk about her work and practice with an opportunity for Q & A.

If you would like to present one of the 3 Minute Wonder ‘open mic’ slots please email ruth@metalculture.com asap.

6pm: Invited guest speaker, Eastern Angles – Ivan Cutting

Ipswich based theatre company Eastern Angles have been working in Peterborough since 2008. They have built a reputation for collating people’s stories and histories, combining these with theatre to make regional stories and hidden histories come to life on stage. Artistic Director Ivan Cutting will talk through approaches to reminiscence and collecting histories and how they magically turn these into verbatim theatre and musicals. They are currently working on Delivered by Freemans – a verbatim community theatre project that will be on at The Undercroft on 26th October to 5th November.

‘Eastern Angles is more than a theatre company – it unearths, celebrates and preserves a ‘sense of place’ creating inspiring theatre experiences’

7.45pm – Invited Guest speaker Emily Tracy - with opportunity for Q & A

Artist Emily Tracy will be talking about her work and practice. Some may know Emily from her recent Clutter Bank shop as part of the Planet B festival. Emily Tracy makes diverse site-specific participatory artworks, installations or projects that engage, amuse and re-interpret the places we live and work in. The work aims to allow the public to re view a familiar place or subject matter using event, participation, spectacle, and audience collaboration.

Emily has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company on a light installation for A Winters Tale, set up the ‘Bureau of the Unsaid’ at the Chelsea Fringe exploring the ‘language of flowers’, created the ‘The Institute of Animal Spirit Guides’ at The Fling Festival and worked with Bloomsberry Festival, Age UK and Dementia Services to create ‘Festival in a Box’ for more isolated older people.

She has worked with the Thames Festival, The British Museum, Dalston Curve and many more. Her practice has included installation, lit artwork, residencies, artist books, printmaking and visual arts projects for education settings. She has made collaborative projects with an animator (as Tracy and Hobbs), a zoologist, an historian, and gardeners amongst others.
