Event description

The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) and the Department for Transport (DfT) Future of Aviation Security Solutions (FASS) programme team are hosting a showcase event on 17 January 2019 at a significant milestone for this collaborative programme set up by DfT and Home Office.

The themed campaign has seen funding worth £1.8 million allocated to eight suppliers who have each developed novel approaches to threat recognition in order to improve our ability to detect a wide range of explosives, weapons and other threat materials that could be hidden and taken on board an aircraft. These innovations seek to enhance threat detection whilst minimising the inconvenience of undergoing and conducting screening. This ensures the customer and operator both benefit from a positive and professional experience, as well as fulfilling the government’s priorities to create a safer, more secure and sustainable transport system for all.

The showcase event will allow each of the eight suppliers to present their outputs from the second and final phase of the campaign. The outputs have progressed from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 to 6.

More information can be found on the gov.uk competition page (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/accelerator-themed-competition-the-future-of-aviation-security).
