New technologies can send educators and policymakers into a 'tizz' about academic cheating. It happened with the Internet and it’s happening again with artificial intelligence.

In this session we will focus on maintaining our humanity when thinking about what it means to teach, learn, and assess with integrity. This isn’t about giving students a free pass. It’s about future-proofing integrity, so we should keep the focus on student learning and development.

A key takeaway from this talk is how inclusion, equity, and human rights can guide our approaches to academic misconduct and promote ethical decision-making for everyone in our learning community.

In this webinar, we’ll discuss:

• The role of human rights and dignity in academic integrity policy, procedure, and practices

• How artificial intelligence (AI) is impacting academic ethics • How equity and inclusion are essential aspects of academic integrity.

Dr Eaton's Bio:

Sarah is a professor at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, Canada. She has written and presented extensively on academic integrity and is regularly invited as a media guest to talk about academic misconduct. She is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal for Educational Integrity.

She speaks on the topic of ethics and integrity in education broadly. Her talks often focus on the ethical use of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) and advanced technologies. Sarah's positionality keeps her focused on social justice, human dignity, and human rights.

She is often asked to speak about Postplagiarism, a concept she explores in her book on Plagiarism in Higher Education: Tackling Tough Topics in Higher Education.
