About this event
- Event lasts 6 hours 30 minutes
Join us for “Designing and Delivering for the Future: Buildings That Support Health, Resilience & Net Zero” - a in-person workshop bringing together leaders from across Surrey’s built environment sector.
Why the Built Environment
The built environment in Surrey is central to achieving the county’s climate, health, and economic goals by shaping the quality of place. Buildings are major contributors to emissions, resource consumption and are increasingly vulnerable to climate impacts like overheating and flooding, which can exacerbate health inequalities. They are deeply interconnected with health and well being, transport, economic growth, green spaces, and infrastructure, meaning sustainable design supports wider goals like health and welbeing, clean mobility and biodiversity. Investing in buildings through new developments and retrofit offers a powerful opportunity to create climate-resilient, low-carbon, and inclusive places that foster thriving communities, drive green jobs, and ensure long-term economic resilience.
What to Expect
This full-day woskhop will explore how developers, property managers, utilities, local government, and other key stakeholders can collaborate to accelerate delivery of sustainable, low-carbon, and climate-resilient buildings across the county.
Through interactive discussion and shared insight, we’ll identify actionable steps to influence Surrey’s next Climate Change Delivery Plan (2025–2030), with a focus on embedding net zero, energy efficiency, health, biodiversity, and water-smart solutions throughout the building lifecycle.
Date & Time: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Victoria Gate, Surrey County Council Office
Audience: Built environment professionals, infrastructure planners, public and private sector leaders, and sustainability experts.
Expect a day of knowledge exchange, collaboration, and cross-sector networking. You’ll gain valuable insights from key stakeholders in Surrey’s buildings sector, take part in discussions shaping Surrey's sustainability strategy, and have the chance to contribute your expertise to the development of Surrey’s next Climate Change Delivery Plan. Together, we’ll explore real-world opportunities and barriers to delivering healthier, more resilient places to live and work.
We’re also inviting organisations across the built environment sector to help shape policy by completing a short survey.
Your input will help us:
- Your current approach to sustainability and climate resilience
- Barriers around planning, skills, financing, infrastructure
- What’s needed to unlock better delivery tools, guidance, partnerships
- Innovation already happening that others can learn from
Survey responses will directly shape Surrey’s updated strategy, and a summary of findings will be shared at the July workshop
