Event description
Clinicians, academics and patients are invited to discuss unmet needs in HPB surgery and transplantation

About this Event

The NIHR Surgical Medtech Co-operative, the Yorkshire & Humber Academic Health Science Network and Translate Medtech are hosting a workshop to identify the key unmet needs in liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery including resection and transplant. Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery is a core theme of the NIHR Surgical Medtech Co-operative, whose aim is to develop new concepts and protocols for new technologies that are applicable across the NHS.

This is very much an all-inclusive workshop where clinician, industry and patient involvement is imperative. We hope to debate and establish a few focused areas of potential unmet need and future collaboration in HPB surgery.

The workshop will feature presentations from HPB experts, open discussions and group conversations around key themes including:

  • Diagnostics
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Imaging
  • Robotics
  • Therapeutics
  • Laparoscopic surgery

Chaired by the Professor Giles Toogood, Consultant Hepatobiliary and Transplant Surgeon, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor Peter Lodge, Consultant Hepatobiliary Surgeon, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Professor Chris Halloran, Consultant Pancreatobiliary Surgeon, Liverpool University
  • Mr Shahid Farid, Consultant Liver Transplant Surgeon, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Key objectives of the workshop are:

  • Help identify key unmet needs
  • Discuss ideas for potential solutions
  • Network with leading clinicians and researchers within the field
  • Develop novel ideas for research projects
  • Establish new collaborations

A full agenda for the day will be available shortly.

Places are limited and prior registration is essential. Lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day.
