One of Latin America’s most singular voices, Gabriela Cabezón Cámara visits London to discuss her queer and baroque new novel, We are Green and Trembling.
Set deep in the wilds of the New World, We are Green and Trembling follows Antonio on his monumental journey having escaped a Basque convent as a young girl, having become Antonio, now hiding in the jungle and hounded by the army he has deserted. Luminous, polyphonic, daring in scope, Cabezón Cámara’s latest novel to appear in English is a masterful criticism of religious tyranny and the mistreatment of women and indigenous people.
Gabriela Cabezón Cámara’s previous novels are Slum Virgin, Romance of the Blonde Brunette and The Adventures of China Iron, which was shortlisted for the International Booker and Médicis prizes. She is an environmental activist and a co-founder of the feminist movement Ni una menos.
Lucy Popescu is a writer, editor and arts critic with a background in human rights.
The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. Your ticket includes a complimentary glass of wine.
