Galaxy formation and evolution: near and far by Dr Andreas Koch and Dr Davi...
Tue 13 December 2016, 19:00 – 20:00 GMT
Throughout November and December The Faculty of Science and Technology at Lancaster University will be delivering a series of free public lectures. This year's series is entitled In the News.
The final lecture of this exciting series will be delivered by Dr Andreas Koch and Dr David Sobral from Lancaster University's Physics department.
A joint lecture with Dr David Sobral and Dr Andreas Koch will explain how galaxies like our own Milky Way form and evolve across cosmic time: near and far. Dr Sobral will take us billions of years back in time to a young, vibrant Universe, where the very first stars and black holes formed, truly revolutionising the Universe. Dr Koch will talk about tidal disruptions and hierarchical build-up using the example of dwarf galaxies in our neighbourhood that we can study in detail at the present.
