Event description

Sunday 9th July will see the picturesque and normally relaxed Princes Park & Promenade, in Southport, once again receive a vibrant wakeup call in the form of the Galloway's Colour Blast! While participants are running, walking, skipping, hopping or dancing the 5k route, an army of volunteers will be taking aim and throwing powder paint at hundreds of runners, making the kilometres fly by! Last year we saw 400 runners take part in our first ever Colour Blast and this year we are looking to make it bigger and better!

Registration is £20 for adults, £10 for children (16 and under) and families (2 adults & 2 children) £50. Earlybird offers are available. Your registration fee includes a white t-shirt and a pack of powder paint for the colour explosion at the start of the race. Along with joining a community of likeminded people looking to raise their fitness you'll be raising much needed funds to support the work of Galloway's.

Galloway’s are a local charity, enabling blind and partially sighted people to gain greater independence and minimise the effects of living with reduced vision. We operate across Sefton and Lancashire, with centres in Southport, Preston, Morecambe and Chorley. Galloway's offer a range of services to support visually imapired people at any point during their sight loss journey. In addition to this we work with our local community to promote better eye health and prevent avoidable sight loss, whilst supporting local organisations by providing visual awareness training to create a better world for people living with sight loss.

It costs £1 million to deliver these services each year and without the support of the local community Galloway's would be unable to offer support to over 7,000 people in Sefton and Lancashire facing the challenges of everyday with sight loss.

The Galloway's Colour Blast promises to be an unmissable family event, so whether you sign up as an incentive to keep the healthy lifestyle going, a team building session or as part of your summer running programme, we can’t wait to see everyone taking part for such a great cause in such a colourful way!

Registration will open at 9am on the day and the race will start at 11am.

Galloway’s held their first Colour Blast in Southport in 2016. It was a tremendously popular and successful event and both we (the charity), and the participants, were keen for the event to be repeated.

From its inception in 2016, the event has carried the strapline “Have a Blast”.

Our 2017 event is taking place on July 9th, again in Southport. We started marketing the event in March of this year, and carried the branding through from 2016.

In the light of the horrendous attack at the Manchester Arena on Monday 22nd May, we have dropped the ‘Have a Blast’ strapline with immediate effect and are in the process of having all of the marketing materials reproduced. However, there are some posters, flyers, letters and forms, which predate the attack, and which still carry that strapline.

We are devastated that we cannot recall these items and are conscious of the connotations, offence and upset that these could potentially cause. These were created in good faith before any negative recent associations could be implied.

On behalf of Galloway’s Society for the Blind, may I send our love and prayers to the families and loved ones of all of those affected by Monday’s atrocities, and apologise for any unintended upset or distress that we may have inadvertently caused.
