Description

Harm caused by gambling has increased in recent years, particularly with the increase in online gambling and TV advertising. Harm from gambling doesn’t have to mean losing thousands of pounds; losing £5 a week could cause harm for some gamblers and their families. It estimated that there are up to 3,500 people in Tameside (and 6 out of every 1,000 children aged 11-15) who are experiencing harm from their gambling; more than 95% don’t get any support for their addiction.

Citizen Advice Bureau have been commissioned to provide training for staff to raise awarenss of gambling harm, how to identify it, and how to make brief interventions/refer on for support. This session will form part of a week of awareness raising in Tameside about gambling harm and is aimed at:

- Increasing awareness of gambling harm
- Helping staff to identify people how may be experiencing harm – how to “screen” for gambling addictioN
- How to help people who have identified as experiencing gambling harm and referral to services.

This course is available to all relevant staff who may be in contact with people experiencing gambling harm (not just council or CAB staff). If you can’t make this session there are other sessions available Mon-Fri w/c 13th May 2019.
