Gaming Futures - Part 2: Demystifying Alternative Ways To Raise Investment

Venue: GameCity, 24 - 32 Carlton Street, Nottingham, NG1 1NN
Date: Wednesday 29th October 2014
Time: 12.30-2.30pm (12.30-1pm - Complementary Drinks and Lunch Reception, 1-2.30pm - Panel talk and Q+A)

We all know that money doesn’t grow on trees. We also know that making great games, products and technology doesn’t always equal instant fame, glory and wealth.

Using platforms such as Kickstarter and Patreon, more developers than ever before are turning to new ways of raising the funds that allow them to continue making brilliant things; the way they want to make them. For independent developers, crowdfunding can be a way to stay independent and build an audience for their work. For established teams and studios, it can be a way to make the games they always wanted to make, broaden their audiences and take back control from narrow-minded publishers.

This panel event will be an insight into crowdfunding and other alternative avenues of raising the money you need to keep creating independently.

Speakers

• Ian Livingstone OBE - Author and Entrepreneur

• Chris Avellone - Game Designer and Writer at Obsidian Entertainment

• Henry Smith - Independent Developer of GameCity Prize 2013 winning iOS game Spaceteam

• Jaspal Sohal - Head of Games and Digital, Creative England

• and more TBC
