Gang Culture and its Impact on Children and Young People

This event offers an understanding of gang culture and how schools can contribute towards minimising the risks that are inherent in gang membership.

Course Outcomes: Participants will have:

  • Explored how children and young people become involved in gangs

  • Gained an awareness of the crucial part played by professionals who wish to protect children and young people in the context of gang culture and the contribution of schools

  • Developed an understanding of the perceptions of young people who find gangs attractive and find it hard to disengage from them

Gangs are one of the leading factors in the growth of violent crime both on and off school property. If there are problems with gangs in your school neighbourhood or local community this can have an impact on your pupils.To promote the welfare of young people who may become involved in, often criminal, gang-related activities schools have a crucial role to play.
