Event description

Description

,For the last two years, we have organised a day trip for Australian and New Zealand Gap students working at HMC Schools in the UK to attend the ANZAC Day commemorations in London. Last year, around 60 students came along from 38 schools around England for the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, followed by a lunch. Working together with the New Zealand High Commission, we were able to get front-row seats in the Nave, which provided the students a fabulous opportunity to experience the ceremony.

Given the success of these trips, we will once again be organising a similar trip on ANZAC Day – Wednesday 25th April this year. The service will be followed by a lunch; at which we have invited an eminent historian - David Walsh to speak. In his work Public Schools and the Great War, David provides a fascinating insight into the impact of the Great War on public schools in the UK.

The event is entirely free for Gap students, the only expense being their respective travel to and from London, which they should organise themselves.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Australian High Commission, who will be managing our seating allocation in the Abbey this year, and we very much hope that the Gap students take up the opportunity to attend on the day.
