Hello,
My name is Helen McCormick and I'm a local artist and teacher. I've been creating objects from clay for the past 26 years, and I still absolutely love the process. I am passionate about teaching and have created this workshop to share my skills, knowledge and experience with anyone who would like to have a go for the first time or to develop their skills further.
My workshop is designed to be a relaxed friendly space where you can meet new people and have the opportunity to create, learn and have fun. Throughout the evening I will teach you how to make a 3D Gonk sculpture using traditional hand-building techniques, and how to decorate your Gonk using coloured slips. No experience necessary.
All materials and equipment will be provided. Tea and Coffee will be available throughout the evening. The only thing you need to bring is an apron and if possible trim your nails as the clay is super soft.
After the workshop, I will carefully take your Gonk sculpture home and fire it in my kiln. These sculptures will be glazed using a transparent glaze. Your sculpture will be ready to collect approximately 4-6 weeks after the workshop at the Walronds. I will let you know the date and time to collect.
There is FREE parking at the Walronds. The carpark is located at the back of the building. To access the carpark you will need to turn up Tiverton Road off the High Street, and then turn left just before the fire station onto Shortlands Lane. It is a narrow lane and easily missed. Drive a few yards up the lane and you will see the sign for the carpark on the left. Turn left and follow the drive through the gate ahead. Here is a link to Google Maps which should take you right to the carpark entrance. https://goo.gl/maps/JKfioUFi3FCSnCHJ9
