Garden Open Days at Rockliffe and Upton Wold, 25/06/16 - JOINT GARDEN TICKE...
Sat 25 June 2016, 10:00 – 18:00 BST
Just 15 minutes by car from each other, it seemed a good idea to open these two lovely gardens on the same day. Both Rockliffe and Upton Wold were created over the last 30 years from bare ground and are now mature, original and full of interesting plants and trees. Both have featured in many magazines and books, including Country Life, Dream Gardens, Secret Gardens of The Cotswolds and The Private Gardens of England.
Upton Wold lies in a stunning fold of land and the main garden looks down a timeless valley of great beauty. Originally laid out by Brenda Colvin and Hal Moggridge thirty years ago, this nine acre garden has evolved into a plantsman's paradise in the able hands of its owners Caroline and Ian Bond. They have national collections of both JUGLANS and PTEROCARYA. Every path leads and corner turns into another interesting area of this special garden.
Rockcliffe was created over the last 35 years by its owner, Emma Keswick, a garden designer. There was no garden when she and her husband Simon arrived in 1981 and now there are eight acres of gardens, ponds, walls, topiary, kitchen garden, orchard, hedges, greenhouses and a sunken garden. There is a fun element; a metal cockerel sits on the greenhouse roof, a golden owl looks down from the apex of a garden building, and topiary yews pigeons form an avenue up the steps to the dovecot.
Tickets can be purchased online in advance or on the door.
