Event description
Find out about ways you can add water and shelter to your wildlife friendly garden

About this Event

Our gardens are becoming wildlife havens. Learn about two of the major principles of improving a garden for wildlife – how to provide shelter for a range of animals and how water or a pond, large or small, is vital for the wildlife in your garden.

After an introduction to the subjects of water and shelter in the garden, we will have a look around the wildlife friendly Farmhouse Garden at Tyland Barn. We will then return to the training room, to look into these features in more detail.

It is expected that by the end of the session you will understand:

  • The different sorts of shelter that insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals need
  • How to provide a diverse range of shelter in your garden
  • How different styles and sizes of gardens can provide shelter for wildlife
  • The ways in which water in your garden, supports wildlife
  • Different types of water features and ponds
  • Plants for your pond
  • How to care for your wildlife pond

Suitable for beginners and anyone with a general interest in gardening for wildlife.

Led by Celia Davies, Kent Wildlife Trust Wildlife Habitats Officer
