Event description

Description

How do you place nature at the heart of a metropolis?

Enter a futuristic world of natural serenity, visionary sustainable design and perpetual spring.

Gardens by the Bay, Singapore’s ‘Garden in a City’ project, is an awe-inspiring testament to inner-city nature planning. It sits on 101 hectares of reclaimed land in downtown Singapore, and exhibits beautiful aerial walkways, Supertrees (iconic vertical gardens), flourishing biodiversity, sustainable energy technologies and the world’s largest glass greenhouse.

Comprising three distinct gardens – Bay South, Bay East and Bay Central, the whole plan has an intelligent environmental infrastructure, allowing endangered plants, which could not normally grow in Singapore to flourish, providing both leisure and education to the nation. It has an in-house team of skilled landscape designers, horticulturists, arborists, engineers, plant health, garden and turf management experts, as well as plant research and orchid breeding professionals, who leverage on the extensive global network of plant sources cultivated during the development days, to continuously curate and grow the Gardens.

Following an international design competition, a team led by landscape architecture firm Grant Associates was appointed in 2006 by the National Parks Board of Singapore to masterplan Bay South Garden, the first and largest of the three planned gardens at Gardens by the Bay.
