Description

Gathering Evidence and Improving Effectiveness: The Use of Outcome Measures

Aims
At the end of this course delegates will:

  • Have been introduced to a range of different outcome questionnaires and understand when and how to use them.

  • Be able to understand and interpret results.

  • Have considered applications to practice.

Overview

Evidencing the impact of your therapeutic or pastoral interventions with children and young people has never been more important than it is today. From demonstrating good use of resources and making bids for funds, to preparing for OFSTED or CQC inspections, evidence of impact has become essential. Increasingly there is a move towards the use of questionnaire and other tools developed through research to do this.

In this course we will cover a range of questionnaires including Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS) and Goal based outcomes (GBO). We will look at how you can use them in a meaningful way in your work with young people, including how to understand and

explain what the scores reveal. We will draw out general principles which can then be applied to the use of other questionnaires.

We will also consider how these and other tools can be used to focus interventions, increase their effectiveness and to support the therapeutic relationship, which has been shown to be a key factor in effective interventions.

Ideal for

Professionals working directly with children and young people in a pastoral or therapeutic capacity and their managers. This course is appropriate for staff from health, education and the private and voluntary sector.
