DAVID WATKIN DIRECTS THE FESTIVAL FINALE

Head of Strings at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Professor David Watkin is a world-renowned expert in Bach. We needed something special to bring the Festival to a close, so what better than a chance to experience his skill as a conductor, directing music by one of the greatest masters? David leads the Cathedral Choir and RCS Chamber Orchestra in a varied programme fea- turing some of Bach’s most intriguing cantatas, with delicate solo arias and rousing choruses.

David’s recording of the Bach Cello Suites won both a Gramophone Award, and a BBC Music Magazine Award, whilst his appearances as a conductor include performances with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Academy of Ancient Music, the Swedish Baroque Orchestra and the European Youth Orchestra. His talent and skill in encouraging students will bring a real air of excitement to this programme, and the versatile voices of the Cathedral Choir are perfectly suited to this nuanced and exciting music.
