Event description
An introduction to the fundamentals of social listening

About this Event

Listening to what your key audiences are saying online about your department, policy area or campaign provides communications teams with valuable insight and can make a vital contribution to communications strategy, implementation and evaluation. This course provides an introduction to the world of social and search listening and its application to the above. It makes the case for listening to what your audiences are saying online, how to critique this information and how to use it effectively.

This full day course will be delivered through presentations, group discussion and hands-on exercises, and participants will come away with an understanding of:

  • Why social search and listening is important
  • How it can be applied to different communications opportunities, using HMG case studies
  • The risks associated with social search and listening data, and how to interrogate data to spot these
  • How to design searches to help you gather data that is relevant and can provide meaningful insight
  • Participants will be given guidance to take back to their departments, introducing them to useful free social media / search analysis tools.

Entry requirements:

  • Open to all grades
  • This course will be particularly relevant for people in insight and evaluation / strategic communications roles, although it is open to people working in all MCOM disciplines.
