A Description Of The Event
Over two days, students will learn many topics. The topics selected for the foundation and higher tier sessions will be done so after careful consideration of the topics that are new to each tier and the topics that students typically struggle with the most. During the registration process, attendees will also be asked to provide a list of topics that they would like to learn more about during the event; this information will also be taken into consideration.
Due to a much greater emphasis on testing problem solving skills in the new exams, students will be coached on how to apply the basic understanding of each topic to mathematical problems presented in a variety of different ways so that by the end of the two days they can confidentally do this themselves.
Throughout each day student will be given many tips on the best ways to revise over the final few weeks before their exams. They will be given time to plan out their revision by putting together a revision timetable to ensure they have spent an adequate amount of time revising for each of their exams and as a result acheive good grades in all subjects. Revision resources such as revision cards will be on sale at the event.
For the last hour of each day, students will work through an exam paper so that they can attempt to apply the things they have learnt, in an environment where they will be able to ask each other aswell as the teacher for support should they need it. Model answers will be provided with each exam paper so that students can check their answers should they wish to complete the rest of the paper in their own time.
Topics in the Foundation Tier sessions will include:
- Simultaneous Equations,
- Standard Form,
- Compound Interest,
- Reverse Percentages,
- Quadratic Expressions,
- Quadratic Equations and many more.
Topics in the Higher Tier sessions will include:
- Quadratic Sequences,
- Number Bounds,
- Trigonometry in 3D and many more.
Please note that this is a two day event and we recommend that students attend both days to maximise its impact. However, students can chose to attend the first day only if they wish to.
Students sitting the Foundation Tier papers will be in a different session to the student ssitting the Higher Tier paper so that the content can be tailored appropriately.
