GCT Jazz Club presents

Abbie Finn Trio

Leeds College of Music graduates and rising stars Abbie Finn (drums) and Harry Keeble (tenor sax) feature in this trio with veteran bassist Paul Grainger. They will be playing a mix of straight-ahead jazz by great artists such as Wayne Shorter, Art Blakey and Dexter Gordon, plus a few originals. The trio has played throughout the North East including Middlesbrough Town Hall and at DJAZZ 2019, where a stellar review in the Northern Echo by Russell Corbett marked the show a masterclass in straight ahead jazz.

‘This is as good as it gets.’ Lance Liddle, BebopSpokenHere.

"A masterclass in straight-ahead jazz" Russell Corbett, Northern Echo

After completing her Master's degree at Trinity Laban, Abbie performed on London's West end last year in the prestigious Pinter at the Pinter season as a cast member and drummer in the show Night School. She was praised in reviews where her playing was described as impeccable and vivifying. In the past she has performed with a variety of ensembles/artists including the Women of the world Orchestra, Simon Spillett, Paul Edis, Derek Nash and was a dep for the National Youth Jazz orchestra. She also received a place on the Keep an eye jazz summer school at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2015 where she worked with artists such as John Riley and Dick Oatts (From the Manhattan School of Music). Abbie is influenced by many artists such as Max Roach, Mel Lewis, Art Blakey and Sebastiaan De Krom.

Paul Grainger is an in-demand player on the North East scene and further afield. He has worked with, among others, Anita Wardell, Tessa Souter, James Birkett, Daniel John Martin, Alice Grace, Belinda Y Los Viñaleros, the Bradley Johnston Trio, Swing Manouche, the Andy Lawrenson Trio, and the Niffi Osiyemi Trio. He is also a founder of, and resident bass player for the highly regarded Newcastle based Jazz Cafe ‘Jam Sessions’.

Harry Keeble is a tenor saxophonist hailing from the South-East coast who has had the privilege of supporting and playing with some of the finest jazz musicians to date, including Ari Hoenig, Tim Garland, Derek Nash and more. His sound is a progressive display of modern tone, with stylistic influences that are founded with saxophonists such as Michael Brecker and Bob Berg, and has branched off in many directions, from John Coltrane to George Garzone through to Dexter Gordon and many others.
