Event description

Description

Overview:

We thought it would be helpful to run a session in which we go back to the beginning! It actually seems that awareness of GDPR may still not be as widespread as we would have expected. Once you do scratch the surface there is a huge number of guides, fact sheets, articles and tips to baffle and confuse anybody. Recognising this, we have decided to run a steady paced session that strips back the white noise and starts again in a clear and easy to understand way.

Who Should Attend?:

This seminar would be suitable for anyone who has a responsibility for personal data protection. It would be particularly helpful for those who are starting out in their preparations or anyone who may have set up measures in preparation for GDPR but still feel that the concept is unclear. It would be suitable for any industry, but the examples given will be from a HR context.

Workshop Aims:

  • To understand where GDPR comes from and why it is here
  • To be comfortable with its purpose and how it differs from the Data Protection Act 1998
  • To know what you need to have to be able to process data lawfully going forwards
  • To understand when record keeping is required and what this entails
  • To understand breach reporting and notification requirements
  • To enable you to talk about GDPR with clarity and understanding

Workshop Materials:

  • Slide deck
  • Glossary of terms
  • Document retention times
  • Other helpful bits...!

Workshop Outline:

  • The History of Data Protection
  • An overview of GDPR and the question of Brexit
  • The key principles
  • The lawful bases for processing personal data

Timings:

The workshop will start at 9:00am, with tea, coffee and light refreshments available from 8:30am.

We aim to conclude the workshop around 12:00pm, but will be around after the workshop for any additional questions.

Refreshments

The workshop includes coffee and refreshments throughout.
