About this event

Why attend?

This session will provide attendees with a comprehensive overview of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU & UK GDPR), providing a practical understanding of the implications and legal requirements of the legislation.

It will not only help to reduce the risk of data breach occurring in the first instance, but it can also assist to evidence (in line with Article 39 of the Regulation) that the appropriate steps/controls have been put into place by a business to prevent such a breach.

Using case studies and group exercises/discussions, delegates will explore the component parts of the regulation and focus on the practical application of the specific articles to their business.

During the session we will explore what ‘Cyber Security’ is and its component parts and what is recommended to be put into place by businesses to minimise the risk of your systems being compromised and data stolen.

Who should attend?

This course is relevant to business owners and any employee who is responsible for handling or managing data within their organisation and who use the internet to communicate with customers, colleagues and suppliers to provide an overview of the current cyber threat landscape specific to the construction industry.

Key points/messages include:

GDPR - What is GDPR, and who is affected by it, roles and responsibilities, the 6 Principles, the rights of a Data Subject, How to work towards compliance and implications should you fail to comply with the Regulation.

Cyber Security - Installation and use of Anti-Virus software and firewalls, use of Passwords on devices, protecting office wireless routers, targeted use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), current cyber scams and safe use of social media platforms and public WiFi.

Speaker Profile – Norman McCudden

Norman is an experienced privacy trainer and consultant and has extensive experience in the design and audit of information assurance governance frameworks. He also provides training, advice and guidance on legislation, information management and cyber security to companies and organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
