Description

From 25th May 2018, businesses in the UK will need to comply with new regulations when it comes to data protection and how they handle personal data. Tougher sanctions will be introduced with fines at a level that could jeopardise the future of some businesses. This masterclass aims to raise awareness of what will be required from May 2018 and the steps that businesses should be taking now to ensure that they are compliant before May 2018.

This masterclass also looks at the impact GDPR will have on marketing and steps businesses will have to take to ensure compliance when undertaking marketing activity.

• An increased awareness of the scope and impact of GDPR
• Guidance on steps to take to ensure compliance with GDPR (Policies, contracts, processes, data storage, destruction, consent)
• Update on technological threats faced by businesses
• Understanding of the consequences of failing to comply with GDPR
• Advice on technology to prevent/limit data breaches
• Advice on how to market compliantly once GDPR comes in to effect

Who is the masterclass for?

This Masterclass is for all growing SMEs within the Sheffield City Region, as long as the below eligibility criteria is met. It is aimed at Business Owners, Managing Directors, Operations Directors, Operations Managers, Finance Directors, HR Managers

Who is leading it?

The session will be led by:

Liam Kenealy – Head of Employment, Spencers Solicitors
Liam is an experienced employment lawyer who advises both individuals and businesses across a wide range of employment and HR issues. He is a skilled negotiator and an advocate of best practice in all areas of employment and has a superb reputation for his representation of clients at Tribunal.

In addition to Employment Law, Liam has developed a niche specialism in representing medical professionals in professional disciplinary proceedings involving the Nursing & Midwifery Council & General Medical Council.

Richard Thompson – Sales & Marketing Director, Central Technology

Richard studied Information Systems and Spanish at Sheffield Hallam University whilst establishing Central Technology in 2002. As a founder of Central Technology, Richard Thompson has more than 18 years experience within the managed services market; helping customers to resolve their business challenges with a clear IT strategy and solution.

Richard started out as an IT Systems Engineer but with a passion for customer service, sales and marketing was a natural fit. Richard has devoted his work full-time to Central Technology which has grown from 2 to 50 people with an annual turnover approaching £5million.

Richard particularly enjoys inbound marketing, engaging with customers or prospects and working with the CT team to achieve united goals.

Eligibility

Only one registration per business via Eventbrite will be confirmed. If additional people from your business would like to attend, they can be added to a waiting list by emailing enhancementproject@sheffieldcityregion.org.uk with the business name, name of additional attendee and contact telephone number. If this Masterclass isn’t fully subscribed upon the closure of registrations, we will contact you to offer the additional place. The waiting list will be prioritised on a first come first served basis. Businesses that register more than one attendee via Eventbrite will be contacted and asked to nominate one person to attend.

This masterclass is open to small and medium-sized enterprises based in the Sheffield City Region. We are pleased to be able to provide this masterclass free of charge due to funding from the European Regional Development Fund. There are a number of eligibility criteria for attendees which we will check using the online registration questions and in a phone call to every attendee prior to the event.
