Event description

Description

Monday 20 November 2017

9.30-11.30am at AMP Technology Centre, Advanced Manufacturing Park, Brunel Way, Catcliffe, Rotherham, S60 5WG.

This event is free and priority will be given to existing clients, booking is essential.

The General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) will apply in the UK from 25 May 2018. The government has confirmed that the UK’s decision to leave the EU will not affect the commencement of the GDPR.

This will put greater legal obligations on anyone (company or individual) who is a “controller” or a “processor” of personal data, including an obligation to report any data breach.

This will effectively catch all businesses, regardless of what they do, how much they turnover or how many staff they employ.

The ICO now has the power to fine any business in breach of these rules up to 4% of their Annual worldwide Turnover, or €20m (whichever is greater). They have also been given more resource to bring prosecutions under the new rules and they have already targeted a number of businesses, large and small, and dished out some big fines.

Your business can’t afford to ignore this.

Join us for our GDPR session where we will take you through the practical steps you need to take now to get ready for this new regulation.

The aim of this session is to:

  1. Give you the tools to work out what aspects of GDPR might apply to your business; and

  2. To focus on how to carry on with direct marketing activities compliantly and what steps you need to take in relation to employee data, contracts and policies.

Our Speakers

Jay Bhayani is a specialist employment solicitor and founder of Bhayani HR & Employment Law. Based in Sheffield and serving clients across the UK, the award-winning law firm is a one stop shop for all your people management issues. Our unique offering of a consistent approach with HR and legal working side by side means you get an expert and seamless answer to your business needs, with fixed and manageable costs.

Rebecca Stopford is a consultant solicitor with over 20 years’ experience of commercial law as a Legal Counsel and a partner in a busy regional law firm prior to joining The Legal Director. TLD is a fully regulated law firm, but with a different focus to other law firms in that The Legal Director lawyers act as part time legal directors to businesses which do not want to employ their own lawyer on a full-time basis but see the benefit of having an in house lawyer rather than relying purely on external counsel. We typically work for a business between 1 and 6 days a month as their in-house lawyer.
