Event description

Description

Gear cutting can be a daunting prospect. The one day course will give you the confidence and techniques you need to get gear cutting at home. An essential course for the budding model maker.

What you will learn

Starting with identifying the different gears and processes needed to make them, you will learn all the formulas and measurement techniques required. A firm emphasis is put into the use of the rotary table and indexing plates and how you go about making your own cutters. Our experienced tutor will be happy to look at projects you may already be undertaking.

What you’ll take home

  • Gears you have made
  • Certificate of attendance
  • ‘How to’ - Course details

Items you take home can change depending on the resources and materials available on the day.

Additional information

You will start your day with a welcome talk, including a hot drink, health and safety brief and a breakdown of the machines you will be using.

An understanding of how the lathe or mill operates is useful, but not essential.

The minimum age is 14 years old and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course and must not be left unattended during class hours. If you would like to read our terms and conditions click here.
