Event description

Description

Printing from gelatine plates is a type of monoprinting which is instant and effective without the need for a press. Using waterbased inks you will explore a range of different effects from bold colourful textures to more subtle colours and patterns. You will be encouraged to overprint layers and build up interesting compositions. Gelatine plates are easy to make and print from at home and you will also be given instructions on how to make the plates so you can carry on using the skills you’ve learned.

What experience do I need?

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners. Monoprinting from gelatine plates is a fun and easy way to introduce you to some printmaking techniques. Those with previous experience may wish to use the session to develop their skills or gain tutor advice and guidance.

What will I make?

You will come away from the workshop with a wide range of different monoprints from the gelatine plates printed on A4 cartridge paper.

Who is my tutor?

Kirstie Williams is a founding member of Leeds Print Workshop. She is a practising designer and printmaker creating both textile and paper based work.
She studied MA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art in 2010 and completed a PGCE teaching qualification at the University of Huddersfield in 2014. She is passionate about bringing together a new creative community in Leeds through the running and development of Leeds Print Workshop.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials and equipment will be provided. If you have any found materials such as leaves, lace, threads, doilies, etc, feel free to bring them along as these all work well to create interesting textures and patterns.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will refund you in full if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course, after which no refunds will be issued. Once booked, you cannot transfer to another course.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible but, due to the nature of the building, Leeds Print Workshop is not wheelchair accessible. There is a step up into the building and four steps down to the toilets, and no accessible toilet facilities. Should you have any questions, or wish to discuss accessibility before booking, please don't hesitate to email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
