About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

GEM has been working with the University of Leicester, Sam Bowen and Jenni Waugh to undertake a refresh of the original Generic Learning Outcomes Framework. Known as the GLOs, these outcomes and indicators are a tool for museum, arts and heritage staff to observe and evaluate the impact of learning engagement activity on different types of audiences.

With the support of the University of Leicester's Research Centre for Museums and Galleries, the development team have proposed changes to the original framework overall, aiming to make it more inclusive by introducing the Sensory Engagement outcome, reducing the number of overall indicators from 37 to 29 and addressing the language used to make it more inclusive.

The Sensory Engagement outcome is intended to support sector professionals to look for, acknowledge and identify signs of engagement and confidence that participants can't express verbally, preferably triangulated by someone who knows the individual well. Its development had its origins in a need for GLO outcome tool to assess the experience of non-verbal ND children who had been identified as needing SEND provision, but it's clear that this outcome can potentially be useful for monitoring the experience of a wide range of audiences including Early Years children, ND people, and participants who have cognitive, learning or neurological differences that are either innate or symptoms of illness, injury or age.

This session will be an opportunity to find out more about the process so far, provide your feedback on the proposed changes and contribute ideas for the next steps in terms of resource development and training opportunities.

GEM is running two sessions, you only need to attend one. This event is free and open to anyone with an interest in the GLOs, whether you are currently using them, or hope to use them in the future.

GEM intends to launch the refreshed framework at their annual conference in Leeds on Thursday 11 September.

If you have any access requirements, please email shannen@gem.org.ukIf you are unable to attend any of the sessions but would like to feedback, please email Jenni Waugh - jenniwaughconsulting@gmail.com.
