Description

Why do I need to book this course?

Are you wondering....

  • How to support LGBTQIA+ people?
  • How many genders are there?
  • What are the correct pronouns to use?
  • What terms to use (or avoid) and what do they mean (including LGBTQIA+)?
  • What it’s all about?

Come and learn the basics and so much more at a gender and sexual diversity awareness training day with Nick.

Who is the trainer?

This course is delivered by Nick who has years of experience working in the field of equality and inclusion. His knowledge of gender and sexual diverity is through the roof and his passion for the subject is infectious.

Nick is also the Director of Umbrella Cymru, a Gender and Sexual Diveristy Support Specialist organisation that provides a range of support services across Wales. Nick was the founder of Umbrella Cymru and has developed the service into the national organisation it is today.

Nick has a Masters Degree in Equality and Diversity from Cardiff University and has a wealth of experience working in the Pubic, Private and Third Sector. Nick sits on a number of local and national boards, groups and committees and dedicates his time and energy to advance equality and inclusion.

Nick is an energetic trainer, and when he's delivering the course, you're guaranteed to enjoy learning!

What will I learn?

The session will be fun and engaging guaranteed!

You’ll learn about gender and sexual identity and diversity and have lots of fun while you’re doing it.

By the end of the session you’ll:

  • Understand current thinking and practices in relation to Gender and Sexual Diversity
  • Identify barriers, impacts and solutions to supporting people with a minority gender and sexual identity
  • Understand terminology relating to gender and sexual diversity and identity
  • Be more prepared and confident to assess and discuss gender and sexual diversity
  • Know where to signpost service users for additional specialist support

Who is the course designed for?

Anyone. This is an introduction and awareness course so anyone who would like to know more about gender and sexual diversity would learn a lot. The focus in most of the courses tends to be terminology and how to support LGBTQIA+ people, so with this in mind, Support Workers, Social Workers, Mental Health Practitioners and anyone else who works directly with people will find it particularly useful.

Is lunch included?

Yes. We'll ask you for any dietry requirements when you complete your registration. Refreshments and lunch are included in the price, so bring your appetite.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes. The venue has a ramp and steps, automatic wide access doors, a lift and staff available to help with any additional access requirements. If you have any questions or concerns about accessibility, please contact us before registering for the course.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Just yourself. We'll provide any course material, paper and pens needed on the day. You can of course bring with you any questions you have - spoiler alert...we always ask if you have any specific questions you would like addressed on the course.

Are there any pre-course requirements?

None! This is the introductory awareness session. You won't need any prior knowledge to attend, but if you have done courses in gender and sexual diversity in the past, this is also a great refresher course. The field is moving very quickly, and the terminology is forever advancing. This is great course to help you keep up to speed with the changes.
