Gender commentary on the World Urban Forum
Event Information
Description
Join IIED for the first in a seminar series with commentary on the gender equality dimensions of key international events. At last November's UNFCCC COP23, the first Gender Action Plan was adopted, but at the same time allegations of sexual harassment at the climate talks arose and colleagues wrote about the missing voices of women at the international negotiations.
This discussion will focus on the World Urban Forum (WUF9) to be convened 7-13 February, calling upon experts who have attended the event and who work in the urban and gender sphere to look at how the forum promotes or inhibits progress towards gender equality.
Chair: Liz Carlile, Director, IIED Communications Group
Panellists:
-
Caroline Moser, Emeritus Professor, urban social anthropologist and social policy specialist
-
Laura Lima, Urban Specialist, Cities Alliance
-
David Dodman, Director, IIED Human Settlements Group
-
Alex Norodom, Coordinator, Human Settlements Group
These experts will look at both the form and the content of WUF9, focusing on opportunities and gaps that need to be addressed.
The discussion will include a Q&A with the audience and be followed by an opportunity for networking.

IIED is a policy and action research organisation. We promote sustainable development to improve livelihoods and protect the environments on which these livelihoods are built. We specialise in linking local priorities to global challenges. IIED is based in London and works in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the Pacific, with some of the world’s most vulnerable people. We work with them to strengthen their voice in the decision making arenas that affect them — from village councils to international conventions.
