Event description

Description

The Gender Friendly Nursery is a programme of staff training on understanding and addressing gender equality, with follow up work towards accreditation by Health Improvement. The programme draws attention to the many strands of gender equality including gender based violence; emotional literacy and mental health; supporting the wellbeing of the LGBT community; educational and occupational segregation and the gender pay gap; and promoting the role of men in caring roles. GFN complements Education Scotland’s Improving Gender Balance programme and features as an example of good practice within the Care Inspectorate’s Gender Equal Play resource (2018). The training includes a 1-hour awareness session on LGBT led by Education Services.

Intended learning outcomes from the training are to:

  • Define gender, gender equality and gender stereotypes
  • Identify gender stereotypes that exist in the world around them
  • Discuss the potential harm that can come from gender stereotypes
  • Understand the role of pre-5 settings in promoting gender equality and reducing gender stereotyping
  • Identify ways that pre-5 settings can promote gender equality and reduce gender stereotyping
  • Challenge gender stereotypes they encounter at work and in their personal lives
  • Understand the process for the becoming a Gender Friendly Nursery, and the support available.

Following this training staff will be equipped to roll out the training and approach within their own establishments.
