General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) Breakfast Briefing - FREE!
Thu 25 May 2017, 08:30 – 10:30 BST
Regardless of Brexit, the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) laws will come into affect on 25th May 2018. The change aims to strengthen data protection policy in order to mitigate the threats of doing business in the cyber space. The new law requires that any business that operates in the EU or handles the personal data of people that reside in the EU must implement a strong data protection policy to protect this client data. It is the EU’s way of giving customers more power over their data and less power to organisations that collect and use such data for monetary gain. Businesses that fail to meet the new standard or businesses that suffer from a data breach without having adequate measures in place may face fines of up to 4% of global turnover or €20m (whichever is higher).
The breakfast event will cover:
- Introduction to GDPR and what changes are coming
- Impact of the changes on organisations
- Compliance standards
- Directors liability and potential fines for non-compliance and/or data losses or breaches
- Steps towards compliance – what you need to do to become compliant.
