Event description

Description

In an increasingly data driven world, the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) will come into force on 25 May 2018 to enhance protection to EU citizens from privacy and data breaches. If you are an organisation with employees and individuals and you deal with, hold and/or process personal information/data, as controller or processor you will be caught by the GDPR and will need to be compliant with the new regulations by that date.

The GDPR introduces several new concepts and is designed to:

  • Harmonise data protection laws across Europe;
  • Empower all EU citizens to ensure their personal data is protected; and
  • Reshape the way organisations across the EU and outside the EU (if their transfer or process data into the EU) approach data privacy.

Collingwood Legal recognises the significance these changes have on data protection and privacy laws and how these changes will affect organisations and HR departments when dealing with personal data.

Collingwood Legal is therefore delighted to invite you to our half day GDPR masterclass which is designed to give HR professionals, managers and data protection officers, knowhow and confidence in dealing with the GDPR, when collecting, transferring and using personal data, including employee data.

The masterclass should give you a comprehensive introduction to the GDPR and a practical understanding of the implications and legal requirements placed on your organisations from an HR point of view, as well as give you confidence to put in place measures that will enable you to ensure compliance with the most important change in data privacy legislation for 20 years.

The purpose of the masterclass is to provide attendees an understanding of:

  • The main differences between current data protection laws under the DPA and the new GDPR;
  • The impact of Brexit and the proposed UK Data Protection Bill;
  • How to map the data you process and transfer;
  • The basis under which data can be lawfully processed and the new limits placed on consent as a valid and lawful basis for processing;
  • The new rights to erasure, rectification, portability and object;
  • The changes to subject access requests;
  • Whether your organisation needs to appoint a Data Protection Officer;
  • How your organisation can prepare for 25 May 2018 and demonstrate compliance with the GDPR; and
  • The new increased penalties to organisations should the GDPR be breached.
