Event description

Description

The General Data Protection Regulations come into force next May and represent a significant shift in thinking about data privacy. The regulations bring in an extended definition of personal data, new data privacy rights for individuals and new accountabilities and obligations on enterprises.

The Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham acknowledges the difficulties faced by small businesses with new regulations. She says: “When it comes to data protection, small businesses tend to be less well prepared. They have less to invest in getting it right. They don’t have compliance teams or data protection officers. But small organisations often process a lot of personal data, and the reputation and liability risks are just as real.”

Haslemere Chamber has arranged an education evening for members – and the wider business community – to take you through the key aspects of the regulations and what they mean for you:

  • Introduction

  • Overview of the regulations

  • Implications for HR and your staff

  • Implications for IT and keeping your data safe

  • Steps towards implementation

  • Offsetting your risk with insurance

  • Q&A

The evening is brought to you by Richard and Eddie Paterson from PAAC IT, Paul Gardner of Gardner Thorpe, Tracy Barney of Guildford HR and Craig McGowan of McGowan Corporate Solutions.

The evening will be hosted in the Augusta Room at the Georgian House Hotel, Haslemere, from 18:30 to 20:00 on Tuesday 28 November.

The £5 admission fee includes tea and coffee.
