Date : Wednesday 21st September 2016
Time : 10am - 4pm
Venue : GMAC Film, Fifth Floor, Trongate 103, Glasgow G1 5HD
WHAT IS GENERATION CODE?
Youth Scotland is working in partnership with Microsoft,The Tablet Academy and UK Youth to deliver Generation Code - a new programme that will equip youth workers with the relevant knowledge, resources and learning materials to teach young people basic coding.
By bringing together the youth sector and the best computer science trainers, Generation Code will encourage young people to engage with computing, provide them with a real sense of achievement and inspire future career and education choices.
HOW WILL GENERATION CODE WORK?
Generation Code will engage 9-17 year olds who have not previously engaged in coding or app development activity using TouchDevelop. The learning materials provided form a series of ‘bitesize’ lessons which will total 15 hours of learning and are specifically tailored for the youth sector (and work with the hard-to-reach and hard-to-engage).
At the end of the short programme, young people will have the opportunity to put their new skills to use and will be invited to come up with an idea for an app to help people in their local community. The ideas will be entered into Code4Community, a national competition.
In addition young people who take part in Generation Code will also have the opportunity to complete the prestigious iDEA Digital Badges and gain an iDEA Bronze Award, a nationally recognised award.
