Generation Sheffield: It Pays To Do Your Market Research!

Thursday 19th July 2018

5.30pm - 8.30pm

Careers and Employability Centre, Sheffield Hallam University, City Campus, Howard Street, Sheffield, S1 2LX

Targeting customers for your business is always a challenge - no matter what kind of business you're looking to launch, you really need to look into your future customers. Who are they? Where are they? How can you reach them? So what exactly is market research? And why is it important? Surely its not that important is it? Or is it?

Our panel tonight will share their own stories in several diffrent ways: the business to client market and business to business market and, in the case of The Great Escape Game, researching new geographical locations.

Hannah Duraid founded The Great Escape with her partner, Peter. From the early days, Aaron Giles, who graduated from Sheffield Hallam in 2015, has been forefront of their marketing activity. And it is working... from one initial 'try out' room, the business now expanded to three sites and 16 rooms and 47 members of staff! Hannah and Aaron will join us and share their market research experiences.

Lewis Bowen graduated from Sheffield Hallam in 2011 and has evolved his business constantly since starting out. Always knowing he wanted to be in the 'environmentally friendly' marketplace, Lewis researched intensively to find a niche gap. His research identified that candles are still made from fossil fuels, so he created a more environmentally friendly product called: Light Me Bio Oil candles, and his cales are increasing month on month...all demonstrating theimportance of good market research.

Max Scotford graduated from Sheffield Hallam in 2014. His award winning company Bullion: a Yorkshire first craft chocolate company. Max has a small scale production unit at Kelham Island. Bullion is now on the shelves of 7 independant retailers in Sheffield, and his chocolate bars are also sold nationwide in cities such as London, Leed (Harvey Nichols) and in last year's city of culture, Hull. Max will talk to you about how his market research has helped his business to grow across the UK.

We're sure this inspirational panel will highlight the relevance, importance, and necessity of carrying out market research pre starting your own business venture. And beyond!

We'll be there from 5.30pm onwards and look forward to seeing you there.
