About this Event

We would like to personally invite you to attend the first in our series of Future of Care events: Genomic Science: now and then

About this conference

This conference is aimed at non genomics specialists who want to learn more about the opportunities genomics and personalised medicine will afford our NHS in future years. The science of genomics is opening up better diagnoses for patients, improved and safer treatments, opportunities for screening and the possibilities for prevention. We are already seeing personalised or targeted medicine for the care of patients with cancer or rare diseases.

Speakers include:

  • Dr. Ignacio H. Medrano, Neurologist, founder of Savana and Mendelian
  • Sir John Burn, Professor of Clinical Genetics Institute, Newcastle University and Chair at Newcastle Hospitals
  • Laura Blackburn, Head of Science, PHG Foundation
  • Andrew Mumford, Professor of Haematology, Medical Director at SW Genomic Laboratory Hub
  • Sarah Smithson, Clinical Director, West of England Genomic Medicine Centre

About Genomics

Genomic medicine has the potential to save costs and improve quality of care by targeting treatment, maximising benefit and reducing side effects.

Through the establishment of Genomics England and the 100,000 Genomes Project, England has been ahead of the game in transforming our NHS by integrating genomics into health services in ways other countries can only dream of. This is enabled by a technological revolution with data sciences and genomic and computer technology which is all evolving rapidly.
