Event description

Description

The 100,000 Genomes Project will transform the way patients with rare disease or cancer are diagnosed and treated. Run from 13 sites across the country, collectively the project will sequence and analyse 100,000 genomes from 70,000 patients in order to speed up diagnosis and where possible inform treatment choices and improve patient outcomes.

Southern Health are hosting this event in partnership with Wessex Genomic Medicine Centre (GMC) and Wessex Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) to introduce you to the 100,000 Genomes Project, the role we as a trust will play in its delivery and the educational opportunities available for staff.

Wessex GMC is the lead organisation for the project and based at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. Along with other trusts across the region, Southern Health will recruit patients to the project for full genome sequencing with the aim embedding genomic medicine in the work of clinical teams across the region.

We strongly believe that this will be a major driver in improving patient outcomes and will transform practice, through the development of precision medicine and facilitating patient choice by providing more accurate prognostic information.
