Genomics & Big Data: Transforming Our Understanding of the Processes of Lif...
About the lecture
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is holding its seventh annual Insight Lecture on 2nd December 2016 at the Wellcome Genome Campus, home of the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI).
The lecture, aimed at GCSE and A Level students aged 16 to 18 will be given this year by Professor Ewan Birney, Director of EMBL’s European Bioinformatics Institute and will be a fascinating exploration of the transformative power of genomics and big data for the future of medicine and healthcare.
Professor Birney’s specialist research area is genetic variation and algorithms. Over the past 20 years he has played an important role in genomics, initially as part of the team that helped sequence the first human genome and subsequently in the relatively new field of bioinformatics, where computer and life sciences meet.
