Welcome to Midwifery in Genomics!

Join the prenatal team at Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine for a dedicated study day exploring the growing role of genomics in midwifery practice. This event will provide midwives within the NW GMSA with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of when and how to refer women and families into the service, while also considering the broader implications of genetic healthcare.

Through expert-led sessions, we will examine:

  • The impact of genomic medicine on midwifery and maternity care
  • The role of the genetic counsellor and how this complements midwifery practice
  • Cultural and societal perspectives on genetics and family care
  • Ethical challenges and considerations in genomic decision-making

Designed primarily for midwives who regularly refer into our genomic service here at Manchester, as well as those with a special interest in genetics, this study day will combine practical insight with reflective discussion. By the end of the event, attendees will feel better equipped to support families navigating genetic testing and counselling, and to integrate genomics confidently into their professional practice.
