Geoff will be talking about the impact of puberty and adolescence for young people with autism.

He will be looking at;

· How to maintain stability at this time of change.

· The impact of communication, interaction and sensory input.

· The importance of and type of support and information to be provided.

· Providing support in common areas of need e.g. public/private, personal space and appropriate behaviours

This talk is suitable for parents, carers and professionals.


Geoff qualified as a Social worker in the 1970s, since then he has focused his career around supporting individuals with autism and is considered by many as an expert in the field. Having been recognised as a finalist in the NAS lifetime achievement award and the LaingBussion outstanding contribution award. He has had the privilege of supporting families of people with autism including siblings. His many roles has seen him develop skills in training and consultation leadership and Management. His speciality includes sexualities in adolescents, wellbeing, sensory perception, managing stress and anxiety, behaviours which challenges and all aspects of supporting families of children with autism. His recent research has included identifying the competencies required to work effectively with individuals with autism. Most recently his published articles have appeared in GAP and on-line network for Autism.
