Description

This one-day geographical intelligence and mapping workshop is delivered by NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit and supported by the South West Academic Health Science Network.

The workshop will comprise an overview of QGIS (free and open source geographical information system software) including sourcing and connecting with different data types, carrying out analysis and creating high quality output.

The workshop will provide an introduction to the specific software and concepts of spatial analysis and data visualisation. It will feature practical examples of typical analysis within the healthcare environment.

Workshop content:

  • QGIS overview

  • Introduction to GIS data types – including practical sourcing of data and loading to QGIS for display

  • Visualisation and styling data within QGIS

  • Querying and analysing spatial data

  • Creating output maps for print from QGIS

  • Creating output web-based maps from QGIS (if time allows)


Please note: Participants will need to bring their own laptop with a copy of QGIS installed (you will be provided with instructions on where to download the software).
