Overview

JMW Turner was one of Great Britains finest artist who had a keen interest in geology which is reflected in his art.

Comemorating the 250th anniversary of JMW Turners birth, this taalk outlines how his interest in the emerging science of geology is relfected in his art. Also how his art reflects the energy transition that took place during his lifetime that drove the industrial revolution.

General Information about the Society

The Mole Valley Geological Society normally meets monthly for lectures which are held in Dorking and also streamed live. Founded in 1979, the Society is a Local Group of the Geologists’ Association, founded in 1858.

Visitors are very welcome. No previous geological knowledge is needed, just curiosity about the Earth and its history.

Meetings are held in the Follet Hall of the Dorking United Reformed Church. Access off Church Street. Postcode: RH4 1BS.

Coffee & biscuits served from 7.30pm. Lectures start at 8.00 and finish at about 9.30pm.
