Discussion on a universal basic income

As Europe and the world continue to confront the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most pressing questions has become how we can ‘build back better’ by finding innovative ways to address the failings of the past. This global conversation is taking many different forms – involving concepts such as the wellbeing economy, new economic models, Green New Deals and universal basic income. Enormous potential exists for us to learn from each other and to work together, both in how we manage the pandemic and how we recover from it.

Germany and Scotland have a rich and long-standing relationship, underpinned by common values and interests. For example, Scotland shares many of Germany’s priorities for its current Presidency of the EU Council – including the pursuit of sustainable and inclusive growth; climate and energy, with the rapid development of a hydrogen economy; digital transformation; and health resilience. Amidst the great challenges and substantial change that we face, including the new relationship between the EU and the UK, now is an opportune moment to consider how organisations and individuals in both countries can share ideas, create partnerships and find solutions to the major questions of the day.

In this spirit, the Scottish Government Germany Office, RSA Scotland and European Merchants are delighted to invite you to participate in a virtual dialogue . Gathering together thought leaders from Germany and Scotland, this event will serve as an initial opportunity to identify areas of mutual interest for further discussion and collaboration, such as on the wellbeing economy, basic income and the green recovery. Beginning with a selection of short presentations on relevant themes, the dialogue will be focused on interactive debate and consider how to concretely take forward ideas that emerge. Our ambition is for the dialogue to serve as a launching point for new and wide-ranging cooperation between actors in Germany and Scotland.

This event is free. Registration in advance required. All are welcome
