Description

Gerry McGrath was born and brought up in Helensburgh, Scotland. He is a graduate of Strathclyde University and worked for several years as a teacher of modern languages. His first collection of poetry A to B (Carcanet) was published in 2008. His second Rooster (2012) was shortlisted for the Scottish Book of the Year in 2013. In 2004 he was a winner of the Robert Louis Stevenson Memorial Award and in 2007 received a New Writers’ Bursary from the Scottish Arts Council. His poetry has been anthologised in Being Alive (Bloodaxe, 2004) and in New Poetries IV (Carcanet, 2007). He is working on a book of essays on key figures in world modernism. A third collection of poetry Self-portrait as a horse is projected for 2019. He lives in West Kilbride with his wife, Kate, and two young sons, Liam and Owen.
