Get Busy at The Hive, a series of one-off workshops: charcoal portraits
By Gill Woods, Artist, Painter, Educator
Overview
A perfect place to spend a morning learning about ways of using chalk, charcoal and erasers to create a portrait.
Charcoal is a very effective medium for capturing a portrait. In this class you will learn about portrait proportions, erasers drawing and ways of blending charcoal and working from dark to light to capture the form and structure of the face.
Charcoal is also a forgiving medium and working tonally you will find ways of capturing the contours of a portrait and learn about how to create depth in a convincing way.
'Gill is a great teacher and artist, she is always encouraging and even when things are really not working out, she can pick out one thing that makes all the difference!'
