Short Description:Join us for the premiere of Sheldon’s Story — a powerful docu-series episode by Shelby Castelo, exploring racial injustice, mental health, and prison reform. £5 entry supports the Queen of the South pub campaign and the fight for justice.
Full Event Description:This exclusive premiere at the Prince of Peckham marks the first public screening of Sheldon’s Story from the self-funded docu-series Real Men Don’t Talk — a raw and unapologetic exploration of mental health, racial injustice, and prison reform.
Through intimate storytelling and first-hand accounts, Shelby Castelo shines a light on Sheldon’s journey from a vibrant young man to surviving the devastating impact of systemic neglect — including losing his hearing, developing schizophrenia, and being left without vital support after release.
Why this event matters:
- Sheldon’s roots are here. He grew up in Peckham, and it’s only right that his fight for justice is shared with his community in one of the most supportive creative spaces in South London.
- We’re giving back. In light of recent news about the Queen of the South pub’s fight to survive (BBC Article), £5 entry from this event will contribute to supporting their campaign — helping preserve safe, inclusive spaces for the community.
- More than one cause. Your ticket helps us fight for prison reform, mental health awareness, and also keep vital cultural spaces alive.
The evening will include:
- A 20-min screening of Sheldon’s Story.
- A short Q&A with filmmaker Shelby Castelo.
- Opportunities to connect with community members, creatives, and change-makers.
This event is sponsored by Get It Junto CIC, a Black-led creative organisation empowering underrepresented voices through film, media, and storytelling. www.getitjunto.co.uk
Tickets: £5 per person — proceeds will be shared between the Queen of the South support campaign and Get It Junto’s work on prison reform advocacy.
