Event description
‘Get Knotted’ Beginners Macramé Workshop

About this Event

Although usually associated with the hip and groovy 70’s, Macramé originated in Babylonia and Ayssyria (Iraq) as far back as 4 thousand years ago. Through the ages, it’s been used by fisherman, sailors, aristocracy, tailors and just about anyone you could imagine. It’s a process of knotting and weaving threads or cords together into simply or intricate designs.

Macramé is one of the most ancient arts forms we know of and it’s done by hand. It is used in interior design, jewellery, furnishings, clothing, accessories and upholstery.

What you will learn..?

In this workshop you will learn how to create some basic designs, how to do basic macramé knots and how to read basic macramé pattern.

You will combine two or three different knots and techniques to create a fabulous bag inspired by the natural coastal colours of Berwickshire and Northumberland and just in time to show it off for the Summer Season 

Your Tutor for the day will be our own home grown Macramé Maestro, Gemma Tones. Gemma got the bug for knotting a couple of years ago and now can’t stop. Her original designs and colour combinations are works of art. She likes to incorporate flotsam and jetsam from the local coastline.

Gemma has her own craft business and can be found most weekends at craft and maker fairs across the country, inspiring a new generation of crafters for the future and showing off her original and very distinctive products that incorporate contemporary colours and designs with this ancient art.

The Cost of the workshop is £35 and includes high quality cord and unlimited tea, coffee and cake. If you require gluten free cake or biscuits, please let us know!
